POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- A new pedestrian underpass on Route 9 near the Marist College campus is dedicated. The New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner joined the president of the College to dedicate the new underpass.
The project was completed over the summer. It gives students safer access going to and from campus. The DOT says the underpass has also improved traffic by minimizing stops for pedestrians.
The project cost about $4.6 million and was completed four days ahead of schedule.
Marist College President Dennis Murray released a statement which reads: "This project is a prime example of a private-public partnership that created jobs and a good outcome for our community. Pedestrians will be safer, traffic will flow more smoothly, and the area's aesthetics have been enhanced."
