While one family from Corinth spends the weekend in a hotel, Union College students spend the weekend at their home. Our Beth Croughan tells us why and what they're doing there.

CORINTH, N.Y. -- From bright yellow to "sophisticated and some bling," Katherine Brickley describes.

With the help of this designer from Katseye Design, Union College students are transforming a teenager's bedroom.

"She wasn't happy with her room, but she hadn't moved in. So, we're trying to really make this her home," explained Stacey Burns, the Healing Spaces Project Director.

They're trying to make home, healing, for 17-year-old Sherene Fedor. Sherene was diagnosed with leukemia a couple years ago.

It's a project called "Healing Spaces" and it aims to make the recovery process, easier.

"We interviewed her asking what makes her feel safe, secure, comfortable," Burns explained.

Sherene was nominated by nurses at the Albany Medical Center.

"I hope that it's a place that she can enjoy for a really, really long time. I hope that it's a place that makes her feel comfortable," said Laura Lieberman, a Union College Senior.

After a weekend away from home, Sherene will walk down the upstairs hallway of her house and into her brand new bedroom. "And just to know that you can, with one weekend of my time and it's actually fun for me, I'm going to be able to change her life forever. That's really rewarding," said Burns.

The room will be revealed to Sherene and her family on Sunday afternoon. The students raised about $3,000 to make the transformation.
