KINGSTON, N.Y. -- New numbers show Kingston has seen a big drop in violent crime so far this year.

Crime statistics kept by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services show violent crime has fallen 34 percent, with no homicides or rapes through the first half of the year. Robbery is down 44 percent, while burglary is also down 17 percent.

Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright and Police Chief Egidio Tinti say the city has a commitment to fighting crime in the city and these numbers to prove it.

Carnight credits state funded programs such as Operation Clean Sweep for the drop, while Tinti also cites operation impact.

Despite the positives numbers, larceny arrests have actually increased. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
