ALBANY, N.Y. -- The two pit bull mix puppies that were abandoned on train tracks in Albany are almost ready for their new homes. The puppies, named "Hudson" and "Pearl" were abused and then abandoned near North Pearl Street in September.

A third puppy found with them died shortly after they were rescued. All had severe injuries to their left rear paws, and Hudson had one paw removed. He's getting a new prosthetic paw.

The Mohawk-Hudson Humane Society says the dogs are almost ready for adoption. There has been an outpouring of requests to adopt them, so if you want a chance to take them home, the Humane Society is asking anyone interested to write a 300 word essay on why their home is best for the dogs.

You can email the essay to by Monday. They'll narrow down possible homes from there.

A $7,000 reward is still being offered for any information on who abandoned and abused the pups.
