It didn't take long for word to spread that Hostess is going out of business, meaning the end of Twinkies, Ding Dongs and other signature treats as we know them. YNN's Lori Chung has more on how customers are taking the news.

WATERVLIET, N.Y. -- I’m putting it in the freezer for my kids for their lunches,” said Jean Vooris, a Troy resident.

Jean Vooris left the Hostess Thrift Store in Watervliet with a trunk load: bread, HoHo's, muffins and lots of other treats.

Now that Hostess announced that it is closing after more than 80 years in business, customers are stocking up.

“I’m very shocked, but the cashier in there said that she’s been going since she opened up this morning, she hasn’t left her spot,” said Tracey Murray, from Waterford.

Even as tons of Hostess goods fly off the shelves at stores, the one thing that customers seem to have a hard time finding is the iconic Twinkie. Like everything else now, a thing of the past.

“I didn’t see any Twinkies inside so I took the Hostess Cupcakes,” said Pam Barra-Harter, from East Greenbush.

The company is ceasing production on other iconic brands like Wonder Bread, Drakes cakes, Ding Dongs and Sno Balls. Stores will be closed by the end of the next week. More than 18,000 workers will now be out of a job.

“We’re really upset, really upset,” said Murray.

A sentiment that has many doing to their best to hold on to a piece of nostalgia before it’s gone.
