DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. -- Absentee ballot counting in the 41st state Senate District continued Tuesday in Dutchess County.

Putnam County finished counting it's affidavit ballots Monday night. Democrat Terry Gipson's campaign says 76 votes were added to his lead over Republican Incumbent Steve Saland.

Currently, Gipson leads by about 1,700 votes in that race. More than 8,000 ballots remain to be counted in Dutchess County.

The race remains crucial to the balance of power in the Senate for Republicans who maintain a majority.
