A new Tappan Zee Bridge has been in the planning phase for about 10 years and now the project is moving forward. The State Thruway Authority's Board of Directors will meet on Monday to select a winning bidder in the construction for a new bridge. Our Elaina has more.

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- After nearly 10 years of planning, plans for a new Tappan Zee Bridge will be solidified as early as next week.

The State Thruway Authority's board of directors is set to meet Monday. It's then that they will choose the winning bidder for the construction design plan for the bridge's replacement.

Three options are being reviewed.

The current bridge is 57 years old and the bridge's special committee says it prefers proposal one, which appears to be the most efficient plan.

"It comes in at the lowest price, at $3.1 billion. It also has the least amount of dredging involved when it comes to the environment and it has the shortest construction calendar as well, so those were some big factors that were weighed in the decision to recommend proposal one," said Brian Coneybeare.

While the special committee is suggesting option one, the board will make the ultimate decision.

Meanwhile, the environmental group Riverkeeper is considering litigation against the state on the project. They are concerned with dredging impacts.

In a statement, they said, "We and the public need more information as to how this will affect the project's overall environmental impacts and we'll seek to discuss that with the state as soon as possible."
