Christmas may be over for another year, but holiday entertainment continues, especially on one stage in particular. Our Vince Gallagher has more.
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- It's a combination of flipping, flying, jumping, and balancing....all part of the holiday entertainment known as "Cirque Dreams Holidaze."
"From the moment the curtain comes up it's very much like opening a holiday gift, there's so much color and so much magic and so much whimsy that's brought to life by these amazing artists,” said Jenn Sierra, communications coordinator.
That's thirty artists from across the world, many playing holiday ornaments that come to life right on stage.
"Our characters are these ornaments you would find familiar to yourselves and the holiday season like penguins and gingerbread men and toy soldiers and reindeer," said Sierra.
And speaking of penguins, we met with one of the performers, Victor, who gave us a demonstration of the Penguin Slide right in the YNN newsroom.
"He balances on a variety of different objects including some really slippery cylinders...it's death defying, it's awe inspiring, and I know as an audience member I hold my breath every time I see him do this,” said Sierra.
This also may become a holiday tradition, since the production is specifically geared towards the holidays.
"This is out fourth year, we’ve got multiple tours spanning the United States and we only tor Cirque Dreams Holidaze during November and December each holiday season,” said Sierra.
And to put it in a nutshell...
"It's sort of a cross between Broadway meets Radio City meets the circus," said Sierra.
And if you'd like to see this unique combination, Cirque Dreams Holidaze plays next weekend at Proctors Theater in Schenectady.
