Folks in Ulster County head to local hardware stores to get last minute essentials ahead of the expected storm. YNN’s Alexandra Weishaupt has more on how people are prepping.
KINGSTON, N.Y. -- Rain, sleet, freezing rain and snow are likely to hit parts of Ulster County and locals are getting ready.
“Just some pellets for the storm to keep the house warm,” said Town of Kingston resident Keith Bennett.
Keith Bennett says he’s also got his snow blower ready to go. Although he isn’t looking forward to a snowy season, he won’t let this storm bring him down.
“It’s kind of fun. Kids are gonna love it. Especially with snow on the ground and the sleds,” said Bennett.
But the same can’t be said for Zach Wightman.
“Snow just means shoveling to me. I don't really like it,” said Kerhonkson resident Zach Wightman.
He and his dad are stocking up at The Home Depot. They plan on plowing 100 yards of their family farm Thursday morning.
“We don't want to do it, it's just something we'll have to do,” said Wightman.
Many more folks have been at Herzog’s True Value Home Center doing more of the same in anticipation of the region's first major snow event.
“Rock salt, shovels, batteries, flashlights, whatever people need, we always have,” said Herzog's Supply Company Sales and Services Manager Paul Gallo.
Anything to get them ready for the worst, but shoppers gathering supplies are hoping for the best.
“I’m not too concerned. This is the Hudson Valley. We live in a place where there’s snow and its winter,” said Bennett.
Anyone who loses power during the storm is urged to call 888-455-1616. A recorded message will provide information on road closures and shelters if they become necessary.
