County Executive Mike Hein presents his plan for Ulster County for 2013. As our Christian Farrell reports, Hein says his message is one of fiscal responsibility.

STONE RIDGE, N.Y. - According to Ulster County Executive Mike Hein there's plenty of progress to build on from 2012, as Ulster County enters 2013. However, Hein says complacency is something his office is well aware, and unwilling to succumb to as an aggressive agenda is embarked on for the coming year.

"The reality is we've able to deliver more reform, and as a result deliver the first county property tax cut in over a decade. It's extremely exciting, but we've been able to do it while still delivering more services than ever before to people in need," said Hein.

Hein says fiscal responsibility at the county level must continue to be practiced with the dual purpose of protecting taxpayers and caring for the community's most needy.

Even those on the other side of the political aisle, like Republican county legislator Richard Gerentine like what they heard from Hein Thursday evening.

"He did a great job. He covered a lot of bases. There are a lot of things we must go after and proceed with, but I think he had a great base here tonight," said Gerentine.

"Ulster County is strong and getting stronger - and it's built on a foundation of progress," said Hein.

Other areas of emphasis Hein highlighted for 2013 included cooperative county efforts to improve public safety, access to higher education, and veterans services.
