HUDSON VALLEY -- Gas prices in New York State climbed almost two more cents overnight.

As one of the busiest travel weekends comes to a close, the statewide average is now $3.97.

With prices approaching the $4 mark, New York has some of the highest in the country, more than 25 cents above the national average of $3.71.

Drivers in the Hudson Valley are shelling out anywhere from $3.89 in Middletown and Newburgh to $3.91 in Kingston.

Some of the highest prices are out of Poughkeepsie, where drivers are paying as much as $3.99.

Experts say the rise in prices will continue over the next couple of months and will likely peak sometime this spring. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
