It's been a long-time since downtown Middletown has been the place to go to catch a movie. But as our Christian Farrell reports, popcorn, soda, and Raisinets are once again featured downtown treats.

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. - "There's a buzz around town and throughout the county," said Middletown's Community Economic Development Director, Maria Bruni.

First-run movies debut again inside Middletown's Paramount Theater. The British comedy-drama "Quartet" directed by Dustin Hoffman, and starring Maggie Smith, premiered Friday night.

"The theater has come full circle. The last time first run movies on the big screen were seen here was back in the 70s," said Bruni.

"It's wonderful to see this again, and I hope people do come again to patronize it," said Dorothy LaPenter of Blooming Grove.

Recently obtained state of the art digital equipment enables the historic theater to now show first run Hollywood movies. It's also helps to have the largest movie screen in Orange County to attract moviegoers.

"Big screen, old-time theater; this is really unique. This is going back in time," said Rick Hennessey of Middletown.

"I think it's a cool place to watch a movie. So, we're excited to see tonight," said Bill Blosser of Middletown.

"You park tight across the street from the theater. You can walk to many cafes and restaurants. This is an economic development generator," said Bruni.

The current movie schedule is Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays; but, mid-week showings are expected soon.
