Berkshire Community College unveils a state-of-the-art lab that will help students learn the manufacturing skills they'll need to succeed in the workplace. YNN's Madeleine Rivera got a tour of the place and has more on this story.

BERKSHIRE COUNTY, Mass. -- To the average person, these machines can be difficult to understand. But for Taconic High School senior Dalton Brigley, they're exactly what will help him get a job in manufacturing.

"Manual manufacturing has changed a lot nowadays. Basically, there is none. Manufacturing you see nowadays is computer automated," said Brigley.

These machines are part of the Intellitek LearnMate system in Taconic High School. Thanks to a $150,000 federal grant, Berkshire Community College got two computer controlled robotic machines. Taconic High secured another $100,000 for two other machines.

"The robot builds the pieces. It comes down on the conveyor belt, they can use a 3D printer to produce the prototype of the product that they'll eventually make out of metal," said BCC President Ellen Kennedy.

Manufacturing has long been considered a major industry in the Berkshires. But with an aging population, the need for younger, skilled workers has never been greater.

"We're going to grow our own. People who aren't even born yet will be encouraged to join this field," said Kennedy.

Students from BCC and Taconic High can use the machines, giving Brigley the chance to pursue his dreams.

"I'm just trying to learn as much as I can now. And hopefully, when I'm older, I can run machines just like this." ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
