An early morning fire at a Domino’s Pizza in Dutchees County has left one person dead, Time Warner Cable News Reporter Michael Howard has the details.
WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. -- It was a hot and intense fire officials say Wednesday morning as they arrived at the Dutchess Shopping Plaza off route 9 in Wappingers Falls just before 5 a.m. So much so, crews couldn't enter to see if anyone was inside.
“There were several individuals outside and there was a report of a possible another individual inside,” said Paolo Capparelli of Wappinger Falls Police Department.
That report officials say came true, the fire was knocked down within 45 minutes, but first responders found a body inside.
“We contacted Dutchess County fire investigation division which in term also responded,” said Capparelli.
Fire Investigators were out all morning searching through the store and debris looking for clues, as a van with a domino’s sign on top was parked behind the store.
“The roof is not that safe because it collapsed in a good amount, we had a firewall to stop it from spreading,” said Chief of the Village of Wappinger Falls Fire Department Jason Enson.
A Dunkin Donuts was spared from any serious damage from the fire but was closed Wednesday morning, as business’s immediately next door only suffered minor damage.
The investigation into who the person found dead is, as well as a cause of the fire is ongoing.
