High Impact Storm Likely

Drying Out, But Cold  for Thanksgiving

Following two days of very pleasant weather around the Capital Region, we're in for a wintry change.

Clouds will increase overnight as temps settle down through the 30s/20s north. Snow looks to build into the Capital Region by mid to late morning without sticking to pavements at first. Snow will pick up in coverage and intensity from midday on. Snow may be heavy at times, making for snow covered roads and poor visibility for the evening commute. Winter Storm Warnings have been posted for most of the area with advisories north and west. A general fall of 4 to 8 inches of snow is expected in the Capital Region, ranging to locally 10 inches or more in the northern Taconics, Berkshires, southern VT and Catskills with some areas exceeding a foot. Winter weather advisories are in affect in the Mohawk Valley and Adirondacks where 3 to 6 inches are likely. This storm looks to have an even higher impact than normal, coming on one of the busiest travel days of the year. If possible, avoid traveling Wednesday afternoon/evening. Other than a few flurries, Thanksgiving will be dry, but cold.

High Impact Storm Likely

Drying Out, But Cold for Thanksgiving

Following two days of very pleasant weather around the Catskills and Hudson Valley, we're in for a wintry change.

Clouds will increase overnight as temps settle down through the 40s and 30s with mixed precip likely by daybreak. That should turn to wet snow and melt on pavements at first, but snow will pick up in coverage and intensity late morning into the afternoon. Snow may be heavy at times, making for snow covered roads and poor visibility for the afternoon/evening commute. Winter Storm Warnings have been posted for most of the area with generally 6 " or more expected. The greatest chance for more snow, possibly up to a foot or more, will be either side of the mid Hudson Valley, especially in the Taconics and Catskills.

This storm looks to have an even higher impact than normal coming on one of the busiest travel days of the year. If possible, avoid traveling Wednesday afternoon/evening. Other than a few flurries, Thanksgiving will be dry, but cold.
